Brain Sensei vs PM PrepCast: Is Brain Sensei the Right Replacement?

I wrote this comparison when you could choose between the two courses. You can’t now, so I’ve rewritten it to answer the question people are actually emailing me about: if you were going to use the PrepCast, is Brain Sensei a good replacement?
I’ve used both courses, so I can tell you what carries over, what’s better and what you’ll miss. The short version: Brain Sensei covers everything you need for the exam, with 35 contact hours and a pass guarantee the PrepCast didn’t offer. But it teaches in a very different style, and that’s the thing to think about before you buy.

What’s different about Brain Sensei
Teaching style is the big change
The PrepCast was an instructor talking you through slides. You watched, paused, and took your own notes. That suited me, and I said so in the original version of this article.
Brain Sensei is interactive: you click through animated lessons and do short exercises as you go. If you liked the PrepCast because you could sit back and listen, this will feel busier.
The AI-instructor version helps if you like that ‘being given a presentation’ style. A conversational AI instructor talks you through each lesson, and you can ask it questions or answer quizzes by voice. It’s the nearest thing to having a teacher explain things (without the actual teacher), as long as you can cope with the fact it’s an AI voice.
Where Brain Sensei is better
- The pass guarantee. If you fail, you get extra access, and after a third fail within the time limits you get a refund. The PrepCast only extended your simulator.
- Military scholarship. Serving and retired military can apply for 10% or 100% off.
- It’s still going! Which counts for a lot if your exam is in December or later!
What you’ll miss
- The forum. The PrepCast had a large, moderated student forum which was a great community. Brain Sensei has a Facebook group but no forum. If you learn by asking questions, find a study group, such as a PMI Chapter study hall, although you can ask questions to the AI instructor.
- An audio course for your commute. You can’t listen passively to the Brain Sensei training, so if you were planning on having it playing while at the gym or cooking dinner, that isn’t going to work.
Both platforms were/are a bit clunky to use. Brain Sensei runs best in Chrome. It’s not worth worrying about.
Switching from the PrepCast partway through
If you’ve already finished the PrepCast course and have your contact hours certificate, you don’t need another course. Download your certificate before 4 December. If your exam is after that date, all you need is a practice exam tool, and the Brain Sensei exam simulator is available on its own.
If you haven’t finished, you’ll need your 35 hours from somewhere else. The Brain Sensei course gives you all 35.
Contact hours from 1 December 2026
PMI is changing which training counts towards your 35 hours. From 1 December 2026, live classes, whether in person or online, only count if they’re run by a PMI Authorized Training Partner or an accredited academic programme. Self-paced, on-demand courses from any provider still count.
The Brain Sensei self-paced courses, including the AI-instructor version, are self-paced, so this change doesn’t affect them. If you’re looking at a live class with any provider, check it’s on PMI’s list of eligible providers before you book.
Verdict
If you were planning to use the PM PrepCast, Brain Sensei is the course I recommend instead. It gives you the 35 contact hours, a big bank of practice questions and a pass guarantee.
If you liked the PrepCast because of its teacher-led style, choose the AI-instructor version. If you’re happy clicking through interactive lessons, the standard self-paced course is the better value.

Is Brain Sensei better than the PM PrepCast?
They suit different learners. The PrepCast was teacher-led; Brain Sensei is interactive. But the PrepCast is closing on 4 December 2026, so Brain Sensei is the one you can still buy and use.
Does Brain Sensei give you 35 contact hours?
Yes. The PMP course includes the 35 hours you need, and as a self-paced course it still counts under PMI’s new rules from 1 December 2026. If you just get the exam simulator, that won’t count towards contact hours (none of them do).
Is Brain Sensei a PMI Authorized Training Partner?
No. It was a Registered Education Provider for seven years before PMI moved to the ATP programme. That doesn’t affect its self-paced courses, which count from any provider.
Can I use the Brain Sensei exam simulator if I did the PrepCast course?
Yes. You can buy the simulator on its own.
